Righteous Living – Bible Verses about Righteousness

 By PBS Ministries

A righteous person is just, acts according to divine or moral law and is holy in his heart. It was said by the great Reformer, Martin Luther: “This life therefore is not righteousness, but growth in righteousness, not health, but healing, not being but becoming, not rest but exercise. We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it, the process is not yet finished, but it is going on, this is not the end, but it is the road. All does not yet gleam in glory, but all is being purified.”
God requires of us to live righteous.  We are to put to death what is earthly in us, such as sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy and drunkenness. For if we continue to practice worldly lust, we will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Righteousness requires a daily demonstration of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness and faith.

ImageThe Word of God tells us in Isaiah, Chapter 33 verses 15- 16, those who walk righteously  and speak what is right,  who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil—they are the ones who will dwell on the heights,  whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. Their bread will be supplied, and water will not fail them.

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.  Job was blameless and upright, he feared God and shunned evil.  The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. Abraham in hope believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.

The Lord does not withhold any good thing from us if we walk uprightly.  We live in a corrupt world but we should not be part of this world.  God assures us in His Word that blessings will come upon the righteous and He will surround them with His favor as a shield.

Amidst the glitz and glamour and the temptations of this world, let us live a life pleasing to God, for I have been young, and now I am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful and lendeth and his seed is blessed. (Psalm 37:25-26)

Here are some Bible Verses about Righteousness. Hope you find them very helpful.
