Jesus Is Knocking, Will You Open up?

By PBS Ministries

We serve a Holy and Righteous God who wants us to confess and repent of our sins. God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, cleanse us and make us whole.  The Lord declares He is standing right now at our door knocking, if we should hear His voice and open, He will come in and sup with us and we with Him.

What stops us today from opening our heart’s door to Jesus? Is it the worldly things that we are craving like alcohol, drugs, adultery, fornication or all the other worldly pleasures? The material things will not last. They are of the devil and Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. Let us look to Jesus, from whence cometh our help. Jesus has come that we might have life and have it more abundantly.

Turn with me please to the Gospel of John Chapter 3: verses 1-8

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

Jesus is calling us to a new life, a new life in Him. To be born again of water and the Spirit, to turn our back on worldly pleasures and seek after what is of the Spirit, for the Spirit breathes life and life everlasting. God commands us to be born He gave us His only Son, who died and rose three days after, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. The Bible says if we confess with our mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. For it is with our heart that we believe and are justified and it is with our mouth that we confess and are saved.

God wants to save us from a wicked and corrupt generation through the free gift of His Son Jesus. We are saved by grace through faith and when we are in Christ, we are a new creation. When we are born again, Romans 6:4 says, “We are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Salvation is obtained only through Christ Jesus. We all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God.  Jesus is calling, Come! Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.  Now is the time to answer the call, not at judgment day when you are placed into the fiery furnace, the pit of hell, where there is no escape. It will be too late.

The Book of Luke, Chapter 16, verses 19-31 tell us about the story of the rich man and Lazarus:

19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ 30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’

None of us wants to be caught in this position. The free gift is for everyone. If we hear the Word of God and believe it, we have everlasting life, and will not come into condemnation; but will be passed from death unto life. When we are saved, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in us, we are now adopted into the family of God, we are cleansed from sin and we are reconciled to God. We live life in the Spirit, the world is behind us as we press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  The Holy Spirit living within us will  keep our life free from love of money, as we learn to be contented with what we have, for the Lord says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” God promises to work all things out for good for those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose.

If you have not yet made Jesus the Lord of your life, an invitation is extended for you to accept Jesus now. Let Him be Lord of your life and cleanse you and set you free from sin. Please pray this prayer with me:

Father, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ. I believe Jesus is Lord. I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. I confess that I am a sinner and I repent and ask your forgiveness of my sins. Make me clean and whole as I surrender my entire life to serve you, in Jesus name, Amen.
