Turning Away from Reckless Living

By PBS Ministries

Worldly living is reckless living. Living recklessly entail living in sexual immorality, adultery, drunkenness, fornication, debauchery, lust, idolatry, anger, rage, filthy language and lies among others. Such living runs counter to the lifestyle God wants us to live, if we are to be called His sons and daughters.  Worldly living is destructive to ourselves, the community and the church. God condemns such practices for He is a Holy and Righteous God and His desire is for us to turn away from reckless living, seek His face and live holy lives.

The Word of God tells us in First Peter Chapter 4, verses 1-6:  “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.”

We cannot be in the world and be in Christ at the same time.  If we are to live for Christ, we must bring to rest the evil human desires in us and follow the will of God. We may have to suffer for righteousness, but by faith, God can turn our situation around for our highest good. He wants us to put to death our earthly nature before His wrath comes on us, He is calling us to repentance. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Turning a new leaf is not always easy for many of us. The devil has blinded the minds of  unbelievers so they cannot see  the light of the Gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. The scripture also tells us we will face persecution from those close to us when we seek to live Christlike, but this will be all for the glory of God, since heaven rejoices when one sinner repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

We have seen the many destruction that friends and family members suffered due to reckless living. Drunken drivers have caused accidents and are put in prison, adulterous relationships have led to murder,  anger, rage and lies have led to various crimes.  A life of sin does not pay. It leads to darkness, emptiness and death. Eternal life is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ and those who are in Christ will not perish.

The Son of man can come at any time. Just as it was in the days of Noah and the ark, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man. People will be eating and drinking and marrying up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:26-27)

It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying, selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.  It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. The time is now, to make the change.

As we purpose in our heart to live a new life in Christ, let us declare by faith that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Living for Christ brings peace, forgiveness of sins and eternal life as we put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Beloved, Jesus is able  to save to the uttermost (completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity) those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for us. God is a Holy and Righteous God and His desire is for us to live holy lives.  Amen
