DELIVERANCE AND HEALING
By PBS Ministries
We were once dead in our transgressions and sins when we followed the ways of the world. We had craved the things of the world: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life. Our past was leading us down a road of destruction. But thank God for the Blood of Jesus that washed us and cleansed us from our sins and made us whole. We are now new in Christ living as children of the most High King.
God hates sins and for this reason, He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah as we read in Genesis 19:23-25.“ By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land. 24 Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land.”
The Word of God warns us against loving the world and the things of the world. No man can serve two masters, for if anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him. Loving the world means gratifying the things of the flesh which are sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. For we have been warned that if we live for the flesh and not in the Spirit, we will not inherit the kingdom of God.
God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of the evil and sexual wickedness of the people. The earlier verses in Genesis Chapter 19 revealed that two angles visited Sodom and Lot invited them to be guests at his house and he fed them. During the night, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom, both young and old surrounded Lot’s house demanding that he bring out his visitors so they can have sex with them. But Lot pleaded with them not to do such a wicked thing and was even willing to give them his two virgin daughters instead of his visitors who were under the protection of his roof. As the men of Sodom moved to break the door, the angels struck them all with blindness.
If we choose to become a friend of the world, we will become an enemy of God. Let us not be deceived, God is not mocked, whatever we sow, that shall we reap. We have always heard the saying, if you make our bed hard, you will lie on it hard, if you make it soft, you will lie on it soft. God promises to preserve all those who love him, but all the wicked He will destroy. There was not one righteous person found in Sodom and Gomorrah. The angels had Lot, his wife and daughters flee to the town called Zoar, then the Lord quickly destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah by raining down burning sulfur out of the heavens.
We have seen that the soul who sins shall die. Sexual sin is lawlessness. The body is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. Paul tells us in First Corinthians 6, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.” Just as it was with the men of Sodom, we all shall likewise perish if we continue in sexual wickedness and do not repent.
These questions must be asked, Why do we choose to dishonor God with our bodies? Why do we choose to continue to be conformed to the pattern of this world? What stops you from repenting so that your sins may be blotted out? Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:4 that the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is in the image of God. Now is the time to come out of darkness into light, now is the time to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
