DELIVERANCE AND HEALING
By PBS Ministries
The late preacher and evangelist D L Moody said, “I would rather go into the kingdom of heaven through the poor house than go down to hell in a golden chariot.” As Christians, we must take pride in our humble circumstances. James 1:9 tells us that believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them.
Many of the less fortunate in society are oftentimes forsaken and forgotten by the wealthy. The question to be asked is, Why does the rich abandons the poor? Jesus instructs us repeatedly to give to the poor so we can receive blessings at the resurrection of the righteous. Jesus always showed compassion for the poor and He wants us to do likewise.
We read in the Gospel of Luke 16: 19-31 how this poor man was mistreated by the rich. “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ 30 ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. God’s love cannot resonate in the heart of anyone who has the world’s riches but yet cast off his poor brother or sister. The day of reckoning will surely come for such a person as it did with this rich man. No one is to wrong his brother or take advantage of him because of his low position in life. The Lord will punish men for such sin. We are also reminded that Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and God will repay him for his deed.
Many value wealth more than they value the love of God, riches and wealth have become people’s idol because they allow the god of this age to so blind their minds that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Jesus said in Matthew 19:24 that “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
Before it is too late and you end up in the agony of a fiery Hell, a place dedicated for eternal punishment for the wicked after death, Jesus is saying to you, come home. Give it all to Jesus, repent of your sins, ask God’s forgiveness of your sins and start anew. Just like with the prodigal son, Jesus is waiting to put the best robe on you, He is waiting to put a ring on your finger, He is waiting to put shoes on your feet. He wants to celebrate you, for you were dead, now you are alive in Christ, you were lost, now you are found.
You do not have to remain in a state of separation from God, you do not have to remain in your evil and dark ways, you do not have to remain condemned, invite Jesus into your life, His Blood will cleanse you and make you clean. Jesus says unless a man is born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God. You are born again if you believe in Jesus and you repent of your sins and accept Him into your life. If you would like to be born again, please pray this prayer:
Father, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ. I believe Jesus is Lord. I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. I confess that I am a sinner and I repent and ask your forgiveness of my sins. Make me clean and whole as I surrender my entire life to serve you, in Jesus name, Amen.
