You, Come!

By Petal Barclay-Smith

Change today will not come if we wait for some other person to change or for some other time.  We must be the change we wish to see in the world. Let it start today with you and I.  jesus

We read in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 19, verses 1-9:

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

We can see from this passage of Scripture that Jesus did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Zacchaeus, the tax collector was a sinner. Even though he was wealthy, he was hated and despised  by the people.  He would have heard about the many good things that Jesus did and was curious to see who Jesus was.

As Jesus was passing through Jericho with a large crowd, Zacchaeus, because he was short, climbed the Sycamore tree to get a glimpse of Jesus.  Even in our society today, when a celebrity is to visit your country, citizens will line both sides of the street, to get an upclose view of the person. Well Zacchaeus was no different. He wanted to see the miracle worker, the restorer, the deliverer, and our Savior.

As Jesus was passing by, He looked up and said Zacchaeus, come down, I must stay at your house today. Jesus knows us by name. The very hair on our head is numbered.  He knows our beginning from the end and He promises to be with us until the end of time.

The crowd began to mutter for they could not understand how a righteous man would want to associate Himself with a sinner.  But, Jesus declares it is not the healthy that needs the doctor but the sick.  We also see that apostle Paul had to become like the Jews, in order to win the Jews. He became weak in order to win the weak.  So it was with Jesus, He mingled and ate with sinners and many were saved, for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Zacchaeus repented of his sins. He offered to give half of his possessions to the poor and whoever he had cheated, he promised to repay four times the amount. Jesus said to him, Today, salvation has come to this house. Not tomorrow or next week, but today.

This is your hour of decision. If you are not sure of your salvation, I encourage you to come to Jesus today. He is calling unbelievers, He is calling the backsliders today before it is too late. Life is so uncertain. Many are losing their life suddenly due to accidents, murders, suicides, disease and such like. Have you considered what will happen to your soul after death? There is only one place an unbeliever can go after death and is to eternal Hell, in the fiery furnace.

Man is separated from God because of sin. There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Sin leads to death.  But God is able to save us from our sins if we come to Him through His Son Jesus asking for forgiveness of our sins. The Spirit of the bride says, come! Whoever is thirsty, come! Take your free gift of salvation today.

Zacchaeus repented of his sins and salvation came to his house. As many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. If you want to receive Jesus as your Lord today, to have your sins forgiven and to live for Jesus forevermore, please pray this prayer and may God richly bless you.

Father, be merciful to me a sinner and save my soul from all sin. I believe in my heart that Jesus is Lord and that You raised Him from the dead. I ask your forgiveness of my sins. I receive Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and I will live for Him forever from this day onwards in Jesus name, Amen.

I am so very glad that Jesus loved us yet while we were sinners! His love still amazes me after all of these years!
